Yvonne Piper
Yvonne Piper works as a nurse practitioner at an STD clinic in San Francisco and as faculty at the California Prevention Training Center. She took SFSI training in the Spring of 2003 and since that time, has volunteered with the organization as a switchboard supervisor and coordinator, trainer, and board member. Her main areas of interest in sex education are STDs, contraception, anatomy & physiology, and research skills.
She holds a masters degree in nursing from UCSF School of Nursing; a masters degree in library and information science from San Jose State University; and a bachelors degree from Oberlin College.
Outside of SFSI, you can find Yvonne being a proud plant parent or at the gym, preparing for her next powerlifting competition.
David Thiel
David graduated SFSI Spring 2013, volunteering and supervising on the SFSI switchboard for several years as well as being on training staff since Spring 2014. He currently serves as secretary of SFSI’s Board of Directors, training coordinator, and manages SFSI’s technical infrastructure. Some of his particular areas of interest in sex education are research skills, medicine and legal issues.
He likes cats and ramen.
Jade Andora
Jade has been volunteering as a trainer with SFSI since 2014. Her background includes birth control & abortion counseling with Planned Parenthood and STD clinical research. She currently works in medical device research, so she doesn’t get to say “gonorrhea” as much. For fun she sees musical theater and EDM shows.
Alex Cotton
Alex went through SFSI training in 2013, and joined staff in 2014. He spends his days at a local youth development nonprofit doing health education and anti-oppression work. Aside from SFSI, he spends his time on political activism, urban exploration, and gaming. Mostly gaming.
Jenny Quinonez
Jenny graduated SFSI in 2016, and currently volunteers on training staff. Her background is in reproductive health, STI counseling and research. Loves to cook and hiking.
Andi Gernaey
Andi has a B.A. in Feminist Studies with a concentration in science, medicine & technology studies. They graduated SFSI grad class of Fall 2017, and has worked as an STI test counselor at St James Infirmary since 2018 (soon to be also a certified phlebotomy tech as well).
They are also an outreach worker with the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, a professional gay bathhaus troll at Eros, and proud Degenderette.
Genevieve Shumulinsky
Genevieve has been volunteering with SFSI as an elf since 2011. She enjoys keeping the sex-ed training wheels well-greased, so that the trainers can do their very best work.
Jessica Elauria
Graduated SFSI in 2011 and volunteering since 2015. Currently the head of finance at SFSI.
Debbie Nguyễn
Debbie Nguyen (she/her) went through SFSI training in 2008 and joined training staff in 2009. Originally from Los Angeles, she moved to the SF Bay Area in 2006 to complete her undergraduate degree at Mills College in Anthropology & Sociology, and then decided to stick around. Debbie has worked as a reproductive health specialist at Planned Parenthood, an outreach coordinator for the Asian American Donor Program, a research associate on the PrEP demonstration project at SF City Clinic, and as a project coordinator on multiple studies for Advancing New Standards in Reproductive Health (a project of the Bixby Center @ UCSF). Most recently she was a quality improvement officer for Upstream USA.
She has also enjoyed volunteering as an outreach worker for the Women’s Community Clinic and as a trainer and hotline volunteer for SFSI. Currently, Debbie is in her first year of nursing school at UCSF and is on track to become a family nurse practitioner in 2022. She hopes to be able to continue her work with marginalized populations in and around the bay area. Debbie loves cheese, science fiction, horror, and 80’s action films, all things sexual and reproductive health, and skincare talk forever.
EB Troast
EB has been working in the field of sexual health education for the last 15 years and is the Sr. Education Manager for Planned Parenthood Northern California. EB also works as an independent sex educator and consultant in the SF Bay Area and a steering committee member of the Adolescent Health Working Group (AHWG) and Bay Area Communities for Health Education (BACHE).
EB has supported with writing and editing several sex education curricula, including “Be Real. Be Ready”. EB has a BA in Psychology, LGBT studies, and human sexuality studies, and a Master’s in Public Health.
Thomas Roche
Thomas Roche (he/him) joined SFSI with the Spring, 1993 training and has been a member of training staff since 1996. He is an author and
editor of erotica and horror fiction as well as nonfiction. He has been a finalist for both the John Preston short fiction award from the National Leather Association and the Bram Stoker Award from the Horror Writers Association, and his editing project Eros Zine twice won the Best of the Bay Award from the San Francisco Bay Guardian.
Thomas is currently a third-year doctoral student in Clinical Psychology at California School for Professional Psychology, where his psychotherapy practicum work included a year and a half at Sacramento’s Gender Health Center. His areas of clinical interest include work with LGBTQ+ and non-binary populations, ADHD, sex therapy, BDSM, polyamory, sex toys, psychopharmacology, and class, race, gender and diversity.
Brendon Bell
Brendon graduated SFSI in 2016 and has been volunteering as a trainer and media wrangler ever since. He also assists workshops on Non-Violent Communication and is interested in its application for sexual education and relationships.
Patricia Elzie-Tuttle
Patricia is a former trainer, currently managing SFSI’s social media presence.
